About me

Because of my distinct career and educational paths, particularly through the arts, I'm very passionate about telling meaningful and effective stories, collaborating with diverse and multi-disciplinary teams, analyzing and dissecting not only what didn't work but what did work as well, and always learning new things and stretching my abilities.

What is data science?

Data science is a broad, interdisciplinary field that blends data inference, algorithm development, and scientific methods to extract knowledge, patterns, questions, and insights from data, big and small.
Using everything from statistical analysis to machine learning and artificial intelligence, data science encourages us to discover and understand the hows & whys of the data that's produced by our modern world – making everything from recommendations on Netflix, to Siri, self-driving cars, and better hurricane forecasting, possible.

What do data scientists do?

In 2012, IBM estimated that every day, 2.5 exabytes of data are generated.
(1 exabyte = 1,000,000 terabytes.)
According to Forbes and Oracle, the availability of all that daily data has simultaneously altered business models of old industries and enabled the creation of new ones. Data-driven businesses were worth $1.2 trillion in 2020, up from $333 million only 5 years earlier.

Data scientists break down those exabytes of data into digestible, actionable bits of information... and then use it to transform our modern world.

Some of my Data Science projects

An Airbnb Exploration of NYC

Project duration: 5 days

For my very first project as a data scientist, I documented my self-guided exploration of a dataset of the over 48,000 Airbnb listings in all five boroughs of New York City.
This led to some very interesting discoveries, questions, investigations, hypotheses, and visualizations...

Project Canopy

Project duration: 8 weeks

Collaborating with stakeholders and a cross-functional team, I architected and engineered core data science models & infrastructure to enable this next generation of conservation in Africa's Congo Basin:
A centralized, government-oriented reporting platform for tracking species biodiversity and deforestation.

P-H-A Assistant

Project duration: 5 days

As tribute to my fascination with all things space (spaaaaacee), this project was designed to assist with predicting if a given asteroid could cause harm to life on Earth – if it's a Physically Hazardous Asteroid.
